Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
SurferIQ is operated by SurferIQ LLC. Contact us at surferiq@gmail.com with any privacy questions.
2. What we collect
Account information: email address and password (if you sign up). We do not see or store your password in plain text — this is handled securely by our authentication provider, Supabase.
Profile information (optional): display name, home surf break, board type(s), and self-assessed skill level, if you choose to fill these in.
Video and analysis data: when you upload a clip, we extract still frames from it and send those frames to Anthropic's Claude API for AI analysis. We do not store your original uploaded video file. We do store: the resulting scores and written feedback, and one small thumbnail image per analyzed clip, so you can view your history.
Usage data: we use PostHog, an analytics service, to understand how SurferIQ is used — for example, page views, which features are used, and whether an analysis completed successfully. This includes general device and browser information. We do not sell this data or share it with advertisers.
3. Children's data
Only adults create SurferIQ accounts — account sign-up requires an email and password, and we do not knowingly allow children to register their own account.
The age range selector within the app describes who appears in an uploaded video (the surfer being coached), not who holds the account. An adult account holder may upload footage of a minor for coaching purposes, and by doing so confirms they are that minor's parent, guardian, or a coach/instructor with the appropriate permission (see our Terms of Use).
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children, do not allow children to create their own accounts, and do not use any minor's data for advertising or any purpose beyond providing the coaching feedback the adult account holder requested.
4. How we use your data
We use your data to:
- Provide the analysis and coaching features you request
- Save your history so you can track progress over time
- Understand and improve how SurferIQ works
- Communicate with you about your account, if needed
5. Who we share data with
We share data with the service providers that make SurferIQ work, and only as needed for them to provide their service to us:
- Supabase — authentication and database storage
- Anthropic — AI analysis of uploaded video frames
- Vercel — hosting
- PostHog — usage analytics
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
6. Data retention
We retain your account and analysis history for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting surferiq@gmail.com.
7. Your choices
- You can edit or delete your profile information at any time within the app.
- You can request a copy of your data or deletion of your account by contacting us.
- You can use SurferIQ as a guest without creating an account, in which case no account data is stored, though analytics on that session may still be collected.
8. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data, but no system is completely secure. We can't guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to SurferIQ.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of SurferIQ after changes means you accept the updated policy.
